MUHAMMAD: THE LEGACY OF A PROPHET (Image Source : Google)

Muhammad: Legacy of the Prophet is a PBS documentary film about the life of the Islamic prophet Muhammad based on historical records and on the stories of living American Muslims. It was produced in 2002 by Alex Kronemer and Michael Wolfe of Unity Productions Foundation and Kikim Media.
Three years in the making, the documentary tells the story of the seventh century prophet who changed world history in 23 years, and continues to shape the lives of more than 1.2 billion people. The film takes viewers not only to the Arabian desert and ancient Middle Eastern sites where Muhammad's story unfolded, but also into the homes, mosques and workplaces of some of America's estimated 7 million Muslims to discover the many ways in which they follow Muhammad's example. Scholars on Islam provide historical context and critical perspective.

Producer and director Michael Schwarz stated;

"There are six to seven million Muslims here in America, where Islam is the country’s fastest growing religion, but many Americans are completely unfamiliar with the life story of the remarkable man who founded this religion 1400 years ago."

THE  CALIPH (Image Source: Al Jazeera)

For almost 13 centuries, from the death of the Prophet Muhammad in 632 to the overthrow of the last Ottoman caliph in 1924, the Islamic world was ruled by a caliph.Translated from the Arabic ‘Khalifa’, the word ‘caliph’ means successor or deputy. The caliph was considered the successor to the Prophet Muhammad.It is a term that has, at times, been abused.

In June 2014, an armed group calling itself the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (known as ISIL or ISIS) declared the establishment of a caliphate and proclaimed its leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, a caliph. This proclamation was rejected by the overwhelming majority of the world’s Muslims.

ISIL had attempted to appropriate a title imbued with religious and political significance – and in doing so had cast a dark shadow over a rich history.

This is the story of the caliph, a title that originated 1,400 years ago and that spanned one of the greatest empires the world has ever known.

JENIN JENIN  (Image Source : Google)
Banned in Israel, Jenin Jenin is dedicated to Iyad Samudi, the producer of the film, who returned home to Yamun after the shooting of the film was completed. On June 23, as Israeli forces besieged Yamun, Samudi was shot and killed as he was leaving a militarily-closed area with three friends.

Directed and co-produced by Palestinian actor Mohammad Bakri, Jenin Jenin includes testimony from Jenin residents after the Israeli army's Defensive Wall operation. The city and camp were the scenes of fierce fighting which ended with Jenin flattened and scores of Palestinians dead. Palestinians as well as numerous human rights groups accused Israel of committing war crimes in the attack. The United Nations appointed a commission of inquiry, but Israel refused to let its members visit the scene.

FIVE BROKEN CAMERAS (Image Source : Google)

Beginning in 2005, Palestinian Emad Burnet records his village's resistance to the encroachment of Israeli settlements.

Bil’in has been one of nine Palestinian villages engaged in regular demonstrations against the Israeli wall, which continues to be built despite being declared illegal by the International Court of Justice in 2004. Bilin's community have been conducting weekly nonviolent protests against the annexation of their land, the building of settlements and the destruction of their farmland, all the time facing violence from the Israeli military and settlers, and indiscriminate raids and arrests in their village.

 Excellent infographic marking the first appearance of a Palestinian film at the Oscars and charting the story of the resistance against the Israeli wall in the village of Bil'in through its first five years.
